How to Position a Complex Executive Career

Complexity is not the problem. Unstructured complexity is. A coherent executive narrative gives the reader a way through.

Executives with long, layered careers often assume the challenge is length. It rarely is. The challenge is that no organising idea has been imposed on the material, so the reader must construct one themselves — and most will not attempt it.

Coherence comes from selecting two or three leadership themes that genuinely run through the career, then allowing every role to contribute evidence to those themes rather than competing for attention.

Everything else becomes hierarchy: what is foregrounded, what is compressed, and what is present only as context.
