A job description explains what a role requires. An executive resume must explain what a leader decided, changed and protected.
Most senior resumes describe the role rather than the person who held it. The distinction matters because the reader already knows what a Vice President of Operations is expected to do. What they cannot know is how you exercised that responsibility.
Responsibility language is inherited: it belongs to the position and would remain true if someone else occupied it. Achievement language is owned: it describes a decision, a judgement, or a change that would not have happened in the same way without you.
The practical test is simple. Read each line and ask whether your predecessor could have written it. If the answer is yes, the line is describing the job, not the leader.
